Dr. William E. "Bill" West, Past International Director, (1991-1993), died on Sunday, November 21, 2021. He was 85 years old.

A Lion since 1964, the late Past Director West was a member of the Clemson Lions Club in South Carolina. He held many offices within the association, including club president, district governor, and multiple district secretary/treasurer. He was also director of the South Carolina Lions Foundation and served as a member of the board of directors of the South Carolina Lions Sight Conservation Association. He was also a past president of the South Carolina Lions Eye Bank.

For his numerous contributions to the association, the late Past Director received the 100% District Governor Award, six International President's Awards, and the Ambassador of Good Will Award, the highest honor granted to a member by the association. He was also a multi-level Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow.

Always active in the community, he was a member of many civic and professional organizations, including the Society to Prevent Blindness, the American Vocational Association, and the International Technology Education Association. He enjoyed a long and successful career at Clemson University, earning Professor Emeritus status. In addition to being a tenured professor, PID West was the Department Chair of the Graphic Communications Department.

A dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he was mentor to countless students and friends.
