June 9, 2020James O’Connor, Past International Director (1984-1986), died on May 23, 2020 in Gurnee, Illinois. He was 85 years old.The late Past Director O’Connor became a Lion in 1959 and was currently a Life Member of the Gurnee Lions Club. Over the years he held several positions at the club, district, and international level, including club president, district governor, and council chairman. He served as chairman of all major functions in his district and was a member of the Blue Ribbon Committee of the Lions Illinois Eye Research Institute.For his dedication to the association, the late Past Director O'Connor was awarded a Key Member Award, the 100% District Governor Award, the 55-year Monarch Chevron, and the Ambassador of Good Will Award, the highest honor bestowed upon association members.Past Director O'Connor, enjoyed a successful career as a certified public accountant, was an active member of his community, and served as choir director, parish council president, and finance committee member for St. Patrick’s Church. He was a member of the American Federation of Musicians for 30 years. and served as a trustee of the Norwegian American Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. His energy was never-ending, and he enjoyed staying active and helping others achieve their goals.He was a loving husband, dedicated father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to many.
