September 1, 2021Jay Patel, Past International Director (1998- 2000), died on August 28, 2021 at the age of 70.The late Past director was a member of the North Charleston Lions Club since 1983 and held many offices within the association, including district governor, and LCIF Coordinator. His energy and enthusiasm resulted in multiple new Lion members over the years, and he held perfect attendance for more than 19 years.In recognition of his service to the association, the late Past Director Patel received numerous awards, including the Lion of the Year Award, the 100% Club President Award, the 100% District Governor Award, nine International President’s Awards, the International President Leadership Award, and the Ambassador of Good Will, the highest honor granted by the association to its members. He was a multi-level Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow.The late Past Director Patel was also listed in the South Carolina Lions Hall of Fame and received the Queen's Badge from Her Majesty the Queen of England. In addition to his Lion activities, he was the founder and president of the North Charleston Merchant Association and the Greater Charleston India Association. Under his guidance, the Greater Charleston India Association helped host the late Past President Ashok Mehta at an event held in Charleston. The evening was highlighted with traditional Indian dishes, special entertainment, and beautiful traditional Saris for all the attending spouses,A dedicated husband to spouse, Lion Kamini, the late Past Director Patel was proud of his son, three daughters, and their spouses. Spending time with his four grandchildren was extremely important to him.
